Effortlessly File Your Company Online

Discover how easy it is to manage your filings with Companies House online.

The UK government is undergoing a digital transformation—and Companies House is at the forefront of that change. With a major overhaul of its WebFiling system, businesses across the UK can expect a more secure, streamlined, and centralised way to manage company filings.

As of October 2025, all users of the WebFiling service will be required to use GOV.UK One Login—a single, secure way to access multiple government services. This shift not only improves security, but also simplifies how you manage companies, track deadlines, and stay compliant with legal requirements.

A look back: the 2022 WebFiling upgrade

In 2022, Companies House launched a new WebFiling account system, modernising how users interact with the platform. Some of the major improvements included:

  • Multi-factor authentication (MFA) for added security
  • The ability to manage multiple companies under one login
  • Real-time dashboards showing company status and upcoming deadlines
  • Option to grant or remove access for other team members
  • Email notifications for filing confirmations and reminders

This was the first step toward aligning with broader UK government goals for digital services.

Introducing GOV.UK One Login: One Account, Many Services

From 13 October 2025, the next step in this journey begins: all WebFiling users must access their accounts using GOV.UK One Login.

What is GOV.UK one login?

GOV.UK One Login is a single sign-on platform being adopted across multiple government departments. It allows you to access services such as Companies House, HMRC, and more with just one login.

What does this mean for WebFiling users?

  • When you try to access WebFiling after October 2025, you will be prompted to connect your account to GOV.UK One Login.
  • If you already use GOV.UK One Login (for other services), you can simply link it.
  • If you’re new to it, you’ll be guided to set up an account—this includes verifying your identity.

Preparing for the Change

Here are a few steps you can take now to make the transition as smooth as possible:

  1. Update your email address on WebFiling to ensure it’s active and accessible.
  2. Use the same email across WebFiling and any other government services (like HMRC).
  3. Create a GOV.UK One Login account in advance if you haven’t already.
  4. Inform colleagues, accountants, or agents who may also need access, as shared accounts will no longer be supported.

How to get started (simple steps)

  1. Go to www.gov.uk/webfiling
  2. Create a new WebFiling account (if you have not already)
  3. Link your company using the authentication code
  4. Set up GOV.UK One Login early to avoid delays
  5. Verify your identity if you are a director or PSC (starting Nov 2025)

What can you do with the new WebFiling?

Once fully integrated, you can use WebFiling to file a wide range of company documents, including:

  • Confirmation statements
  • Annual accounts
  • Director and PSC changes
  • Registered office address updates
  • Dissolution requests

And thanks to your new dashboard, it is easier than ever to monitor deadlines and filing history.

What’s coming next?

October 2025

Mandatory use of GOV.UK One Login for WebFiling accounts.

November 2025

All company directors and people with significant control (PSCs) will need to verify their identity. This will become a legal requirement under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023.

 Why this matters?

These changes are more than just administrative, they are about building a more secure, transparent business environment in the UK. With cyber threats on the rise and increasing regulatory demands, it is crucial for company data to be protected and easily accessible by authorised users only.

The shift to GOV.UK One Login also reflects a wider government strategy: to provide a consistent, user-friendly digital experience across all services.

Companies House has made WebFiling easier than ever giving you more control, clearer deadlines, and better security. The new system is designed to work with you, not against you. This move is a major step forward in the UK’s digital transformation strategy. Though it requires some early adjustments, the long-term benefits are clear: stronger protection, greater control, and easier access to your company’s legal information.

Do not wait until October 2025. Take action now to get familiar with the new system and ensure you are fully compliant before the switch.
