New VAT submission Portal Dutch

The portal for submitting Dutch VAT returns has been updated

In 2022 Dutch VAT returns need to submit via a new Portal. These changes only impact those businesses registered in the Dutch Chamber of Commerce. So foreign VAT registered companies without a permanent establishment are not yet impact. This online portal (Belastingdienst Zakelijk) for amongst others, is for the filling of Dutch VAT returns. The authorities indicate that the new portal would extend to all VAT registrations. Although we do not have a date for such extension yet.

The Dutch tax authorities urge taxpayers to adapt to this change. As the old entrepreneur portal will no longer be applicable to the reporting period of 2022 whether it is monthly, quarterly or yearly. For example, if you submit returns monthly. The reporting period for January 2022 will no longer be available in the old portal.

What are the alternatives to the old entrepreneurial portal?

The current alternatives to the old entrepreneur portal are as follows:

  • Request the services of a tax agent.
  • Or get management software for archiving.

If you decide to register on the new entrepreneur portal of the Dutch Tax Agency. There are some advantages compared to the old portal. Some of them are as follows:

  • Log in via e-Recognition tools (DigiD and eHerkenning), thus improving security.
  • The submitted returns can view again. This is currently not possible in the old portal.
  • In addition, you can save the draft declaration form for future submission.

In any case, tax service providers can authorize to use the New Entrepreneur Portal.

Foreign established businesses without a registration in the Dutch Chamber of Commerce can use the old portal for the time being.

Who can continue through the old gate to submit VAT returns Dutch households?

Those companies or entrepreneurs that cannot register with the Trade Registry of the Dutch Chamber of Commerce. It can continue to use the old entrepreneur portal to submit VAT returns for the time being.
